If you want grassroots – this guy Benny is your man. He has been holding court at the Yana distribution hub in the Rockaways at 113th for Occupy Sandy for the past week, barely taking any time off. Coordinating logistics, dealing with all types of people, and making it happen. Where was the Red Cross that first week? Not there. We need to rethink how we support disasters in this country and learn from what’s working.
